Right Winger. He was called the speediest Right
Winger during his career in the club from 1961 - 1966 and 1968.
Captained the team in 1965. He was a scholar of Calcutta University
and at present he is popular classical music singer of our State.
He scored 46 goals for the Club. He represented India in the
Pre-Olympics in 1963-64, Asia Cup in 1964 and Merdeka in 1961. |

| Chandan Banerjee |

Stopper. Played for the club from 1963-1966 and
was the Captain in 1966. He is presently closely involved in
the club activities. |

| Ashim Moulik |
 |
Centre Forward. He played for East Bengal from
1963 to 1965 and again during 1967 and 1968. He was a fine sharp
shooter and scored 95 goals for the Club being their highest
scorer from 1963 to 1965. He scored the winning goal for East
Bengal in their 1-0 win over Mohun Bagan in the replayed I.F.A.
Shield Final in 1965. |
| In the Quarter Finals of the same tournament he
scored a classic goal -vs- Hyderabad-XI when he smashed a forty
yard volley into the roof of the net - a goal hailed by many
critics as one of the best ever at the Calcutta Maidan. He was
also the top scorer in the Calcutta Football League in 1964
with 20 goals. He was also the top scorer of the League in 1966
with 28 goals but representing Mohun Bagan. During his tenure
the Club won I.F.A. Shield (1965), Rovers Cup (1967), Durand
Cup (1967), Sait Nagjee Trophy (1968) and Bordoloi Trophy (1968).
He represented India in the Merdeka Tournaments in 1964 and
1965. He scored three goals for India in International Matches. |

| Prasanta Sinha |

Left Half. He was a member of the victorious
Indian Football team in 1962 Asian games. He signed for our
club in 1964 from Eastern Railway and played for us upto the
end of his football career in 1971 and captained our team in
1967. He started his career as a left-inside and grew to become
a very versatile player who could play almost any position.

| People still remember his goal against the Tatabania
Club of Hungary in the Mohun Bagan Platinum Jubilee Celebration
in 1964. He was called 'The Gentleman Footballer' during those
days. He also played for India in the Merdeka Tournament in
1964 and 1965. |

| Parimal Dey |

Left Inside. He was an extremely skillful and
popular player during his career from 1964 - 1970 and 1973.
He was the captain of our team in 1968. In 1970 he was the only
scorer in the IFA Shield final against Pas Club of Iran. Post
Independence East Bengal became the first team to defeat a foreign
side and become Shield Champions. |
| He scored 79 goals for the Club and was renowned
for scoring goals from Free-kicks. He represented India in Merdeka
and Asian Games in 1966. |

| Santo Mitra |

Left Back. The captain of the team in 1970, the
year the club beat famous Pas Club of Iran in IFA Shield final.
Played for the club from 1965 - 1973. He represented India in
the Merdeka Tournament in 1968. |

| Peter Thangaraj |
 |
Goalkeeper. One of the best Goalkeepers of the
country played for the club from 1965 - 1970 and was the captain
in 1969. He was the member of Indian Football team in 1956 &
1960 Olympic games and the Gold medal winning Indian team in
1962 Asian games. An Arjuna Awardee, he was elected the best
Goal Keeper of the Millennium of the club. He also played in
Asian All Star Team in 1969. |

| Syed Nayeemuddin |

Stopper. The only Dronacharya Awardee (the highest
honour for a coach in the country) in Indian Football is also
an Arjuna Awardee. He was the Captain of Indian Football team
in 1970 Asian games where India won the Bronze Medal. He played
for the team from 1966-1967 and joined again in 1970 and coached
the East Bengal team in the years 1990-1991, 1994-1995 and 2000. |

| Md. Habib |

Striker. He was a schemer on the field who came
to Calcutta from Hyderabad as a player of the club in 1966.
Played till 1967 and joined again for periods from 1970-1974,
1980 and 1982. He was one of the most indispensable National
players for several years. |
| He started his career as a Coach in Tata Football
Academy and at present he is the Chief Coach of I. F. A. Football
Academy at Haldia. He is an Arjuna Awardee. |

| Shyam Thapa |

Striker. Famous for scoring acrobatic goals
particularly from back volleys. He had the distinction of scoring
a hattrick in his very first appearance for the club in the
League -vs- Rajasthan in 1966. He also played for the club 1970,
1971, 1975, 1976 and 1984. He scored a number of brilliant goals
for the club but one than stands out is the one -vs- Mohun Bagan
in 1975 League. |
| In the same year he scored two goals in the club's
historic 5-0 win over Mohun Bagan in the I.F.A. Shield Final.
He was also the top scorer of Calcutta League in 1971 with 14
goals. During his tenure the club won a number of trophies.
He was a member of the India's Bronze Medal Winning team in
1970 Asian Games and also played for the country in Merdeka
(1970 and 1971). He was also the club's coach from 1985-1987.

| Sudhir Karmakar |

Defender. He was just 5 feet 4 inches tall but
his brilliance in that position caused him to be named the best
defender of Asia after the 1970 Asian games where India won
the Bronze medal. Played for East Bengal Club from 1969 - 1976
and 1980-1981. He was the captain in 1972, the year we won all
the major tournaments in India under his able captaincy. |
| His colleagues were proud to play along side him.
He is an Arjuna Awardee. He was elected the best defender of
the millennium of the club. |
